Cybereason Stops Customers From Bad Rabbit Ransomware

Written by Cyber Admin | October 25, 2017

Cybereason today announced that its global customers were protected against the Bad Rabbit ransomware attack by using behavioral and proprietary deception techniques to target the core behaviors typical in ransomware attacks.

Cybereason also announced that Amit Serper, the company’s Principal Security Researcher, is the first person in the world to discover a vaccination for the Bad Rabbit ransomware that is spreading globally. The vaccination prevents the ransomware from running on any computer on which it is activated. Serper provides extensive details on how to stop the spread of Bad Rabbit on Cybereason’s blog.

Bad Rabbit, which spread across Europe on Tuesday, targets enterprise networks by employing methods similar to NotPetya (ransomware used to infect computers globally in June). Bad Rabbit's full impact is still unknown. To date, the attack has affected airports, news agencies and train stations in the Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, Bulgaria Germany and other countries according to media reports.

This is the second time that Serper has found a vaccination to fight a global ransomware outbreak. He discovered a vaccination for NotPetya in June earning him worldwide attention including a CNN appearance.

Cybereason is leading the SecureMA initiative, a coalition of Massachusetts non-profits, small businesses, law enforcement, and local government officials working together to raise the visibility and awareness of the cyber threats facing smaller organizations and individuals across the Commonwealth. Today at 12:00 p.m. at its headquarters at 200 Clarendon Street, Cybereason is hosting an Intelligence Briefing on the global ransomware threat and the recent Bad Rabbit outbreak.
